Winter is the frenetic, roller-coaster conclusion to a satisfying (if sappy) Young Adult series. Like many other modern YA series (Hunger Games, Divergent, Legend, The Maze Runner etc.) this utilises a clever gimmick of turning fairytales into modern science fiction equivalents and tying them all together. The first novel focused on Cinderella, the second on Red-Riding Hood, the third on Rapunzel and this final novel focuses on the idea of Snow White.

I really didn't like this like the first 3 but it was really good to get a wrap up of all the characters and get Winter's story too. They were so different from one another, yet learned to work together by the end. The plot was very “fairytale” like—kill the evil queen and fall in love, but what made it so interesting was the little details that are

I'm really glad I read Fairest before reading this one. It helped so much with the Levana/Winter backstory. No it's not absolutely necessary to read it, but you'll have a much fuller experience with Winter if you do.
