I am not wise enough to say anything worth saying about this book. It is beyond wise.
This is my fourth or fifth time reading the book, and it keeps getting better. I hope to read it again in ten years and yet again another ten years after that--reason enough to hope to live a long life.

So good. And so long. And so well written. And so long. Surely they must have had editors in the 1870s? But what a gentle and insightful portrayal of human nature! I guess the length of the book gave her time to really develop each of the characters and gradually interweave all of their lives, but it also certainly edged into excessive wordiness at times. In the end, I'm glad that I read it. Here are a few quotes that I liked:
