2021 update: Funny that I last read this book in a February , loved it just the same as always.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a great representation of childhood innocence.
I can remember Narnia from my childhood, I can not recall if I read this book myself or had it told to me. I believe all children should step in the wardrobe at least once, and if you are a grown up child and haven't ventured in, it's never to late. You are never to old for fairy tales, you are never to old to believe ...more

While I had some vague recollection that C.S. Lewis was known for some vague religious controversy, I didn't know anymore than that until I read this book and a few of the accompanying reviews on GoodReads.
I did pick up on the Aslan / Christ parallels but didn't really ponder them much while I was reading the story. In hindsight they're well done and not at all obtrusive while still discernible to the knowing mind.

Excellent, right-paced, lovely to listen to. Each chapter has just the right length, with a perfect blend of the narrator's voice and the characters' acts.
Update: The audio drama, in the end, was magnificent! Applaud to the cast and the direction. ...more

My initial reading of this book rates a 3.5, but the movie gets 4.5, so I'm giving an overall rating of 4. Probably, like other classics I have read (Pride and Prejudice, for example), the rating goes up over time and I should just give it a 5 now. I like books that grow on you.
I suppose my initial reaction was that I was a little disappointed. I didn't feel it lived up to the hype that an author of the stature of C.S. Lewis deserved in my mind. Of course I was coming to it as an adult rather th ...more

I guess I just don't get the popularity of this book. I have never cared for the story and I don't care for the movie. I understand it's a "classic" of sorts, but it's just not for me.
