I have to say, despite Steinbeck's popularity, he usually bores me to tears. The Winter of Our Discontent is only like 300 pages, and I've never managed to finish it. However, last year I was in a funk and reading my usual chick lit/mysteries (which are generally more predictable and cheesier than an episode of Full House) was just making it worse, so I gave East of Eden a try. I was shocked by not only how much I enjoyed it, but also, how well it kept my interest throughout the book. My only is ...more
