sometimes a book reaches into your chest and breathes life back into your cold, shriveled little heart.
i cried many times over the course of reading this book, and i don’t think my seasonal depression had anything to do with it - i genuinely think this is one of the most incredible stories i’ve ever read.
i started reading it a few weeks ago, and put it down for a while without really understanding why.

This was a charming little book, but not as charming as I'd hoped. I wanted something more: more depth of characterization, more time to spend developing the plot, more of an emotional range...I can't quite put my finger on it, but something was missing. I think we'll have a solid discussion about this in my book club, but I don't expect this is a book I'll remember much about a year or two from now. It is sweet. I will say it follows the exact same plot as Under the Whispering Door. Originality is not Klune’s strong point.
