What Members Thought

I read this in high school and didn't much enjoy it. I know it's a classic and quite typical high school fare but I think it's too advanced for most high school students to enjoy.
The story is at best morose and while an honest depiction of a lost young man in a downward spiral it's probably NOT the best fodder for young minds.
As an adult I can appreciate it more, but I can now easily understand my earlier reacton to it. ...more

I first read this in high school on a banned books kick and didn't get it. When I read it again in graduate school after a professor said read it again and put it in the societal context for me it was great.

Shelves:
with-reservations,

barely-finished,
young-adult,
audiobook,
overrated,
classics,
zz-2011
With reservations: Language...Lots of languaage: GD, JC, SOB, C-sakes, bastard...no S-, C--t or F- yet. Beginning was slow and the language is just for the shock value though probably authentic for boys prep school.
