Enjoyable casual read, not fine lit and not a masterpiece.
Dumbfounded as to the super high rating - which is what drove me to read this book.
Hannah writes the dramatic, thrilling parts very well (4), but is much less engaging in the more casual, mundane segments of the story (2), which were sometimes difficult to trudge through.

Dadgummit Ms. Hannah, you made me cry. I HATE crying.
I read this during my long weekend. Very well written. Wasn't hard to get into at all.
I hate that a generation has passed without stories like this being out in the spotlight.

Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres, and this book was a fast read, hard to put down once it got toward the end. Heartbreaking in many parts, and also helped me learn a lot about an aspect of WW2 that I wasn't really aware of.
