I had to give 5 stars for a few reasons. The writing was great and I would normally rate 4 stars but the research behind the human experience in this ragged time in history, bumped to 5!
My father and father-in-law served in WW2, And over the years, I came to understand how this War effected these men and there families.
The story takes place within the French Resistance of WW2 and concentrates in the lives of the women. The conditions they lived through and what they had to endure in an attempt

Not as spectacularly well written as All the Light You Cannot See, but still a worthwhile book. The author did a great job showing the pain everybody (other than the German soldiers) experienced.

This heartbreaking book about two sisters in wartime had me quite angry after reading it. I was really frustrated with the narrator--it just really irks me when people don't share their cultural heritage or language with their children! Some other plot elements bothered me, but this was still a good, thought-provoking read. And of course they are making a movie! Very difficult to read, in parts, but overall well written and compelling, especially once the Nightingale becomes active.

What bothered me the most, oddly, was the transition from the end of the book to the acknowledgments. It moved from a rather somber/serious ending to a cheerful thanks to all the people who ever helped the author.

Need to think about the book more, overall, before adding to the review.
