The love once born in my heart for this book never leaves. Ever. No matter how many times I reread the book. What I discover as I reread the book as an adult and cannot escape, and what eluded me the many times I had read it as a younger woman, was the endless waves of self pity which run through the story. Our nameless protagonist asks us to bleed our hearts dry for her - and suddenly I wonder about the kind of woman Du Maurier herself is. I researched more about her life and discovered deep un ...more
