Read this as a teenager, then recently re-read it. What a difference a few decades of living has made! As a teenager I sympathized so completely with the narrator, feeling her unease, trepidation, anxiety and fear. Now, as a woman, her behavior is more annoying. She allowed Danvers to bully and intimidate her, never truly spoke with her husband, and just generally irritated me!
