The Unabridged Audiobook version of this as read by David Suchet is a gem.
Unlike the many film and television adaptations, (and most gems) this is uncut and a bit unpolished. Perhaps the characterizations aren't as multi-faceted and fail to sparkle quite as much as some of the the abler adaptations but there is also no overly dark patina of religiosity or "witty" camp as with the more well known versions.
Instead the genius of the original is allowed to shine though. I've not yet seen the Kenne ...more

Well, that was fun! This was the first Agatha Christie book I've ever read, to the best of my recollection, and it was very engaging. The one thing that slowed me down was that Poirot and his pal M. Bouc spoke a wee bit too much French, which I could either ignore or use Google Translate to look up. I definitely did not have it all figured out by the end.

I like murder mysteries where I can guess who the culprit is. This just didn't feel at all possible in this book. So much of the information presented at the end was not given to the reader, and I felt there was no way for the reader to even guess this information. I enjoyed reading it, but not as much as I could have.
