I hadn't read this since I was a child, so when my local "Connect with the Classics" book discussion group chose it for this month, I looked forward to reading it. I wasn't disappointed. Sometimes when you read books as an adult that you read as a child they lose their magic because your perceptions have changed. I'm happy to say that the magic of Dickens never dies. Last year I listened to it by Neil Gaiman, this year Jim Dale. Both amazing! Of the two, I prefer the non-abridged audio version. Next year I'll try Tim Curry's.

Excellent full cast version, with the amazing Derek Jacobi as the narrator. I always prefer complete versions, although this one seems to have added a little bit of dialog that isn't in the original, which is weird. My favorites are probably Jim Dale and Tim Curry, although Neil Gaiman and Patrick Stewart are amazing. Next year I'll try LaVar Burton maybe

I listened to Tim Curry's narration a few years ago and I think I prefer that version, though Patrick Stewart is, of course, delightful.

This is one of those classics that is worth reading, even if you have seen all of the adaptations. This was my first time listening to this as an audiobook performance and Tim Curry was fabulous! I still intend to try other readers, but I will definitely come back to this one.
