Lina and Doon race against time to find a solution to the problems faced by the city of Ember.

3.5. Good promise, good workings, but ultimately fell short of its potential.
It was a very simple straight forward narrative which raised some interesting points. I want to read the next one, although mostly because I want to find out what happens to the characters and not because of the deeper issues.
Thanks Miles. You were right. The book is better than the movie.
This is such a fun story! This is my favorite book in this series. The narrative is shared between two preteens, a boy and a girl, who cross paths and join forces to try and save their city. This series reminds me of the childhood classics My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George and Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell.

I thought this was a very clever book, and I eagerly look forward to the sequels.
