I came across the name of this book when I read an article about "favorite literary heroines." The description and love of Cimorene, the heroine, had me intrigued enough to look up the series and I couldn't believe I'd never heard of it before. I decided to go ahead and read it now to see whether it was as good as the reviews professed - and it was! I would say it's probably ideal for 3rd-5th graders (or earlier, depending on reading level). Cimorene is a non-princessy Princess, which was great

Listened to this in the car with my family on a road trip! My youngest (3) was a bit too young to appreciate it, but the 6 and 8 year olds liked it!

What can I say, anytime the princess tells the knight to take a hike because she does not want to be rescued, it's got to be good. I really like Cimorene. She does things her own way.

A cute, sometimes funny story that sends up various fairy tale tropes, without being too heavy-handed.

This is a cute little chapter book about an unconventional princess who decides to be a dragon's servant rather than marry a prince. A lot of the conflict resolution feels really convenient or trite, but as a book for 8-12-year-olds it doesn't need a lot of complexity in the plot.
