Andy Weir really loves science. HE JUST REALLY LOVES IT. His enthusiasm for it is what makes his books readable. I don't love science, and I barely understand what he's describing, but he's just so darn excited about it that I'm willing to go along. This book starts out with a very "The Martian Part Deux" vibe, but then a little ways in it takes a real swerve, and that's when it got really fun.

If you are worried, as my husband was, fear not. It's like Artemis never happened! We'll all just pret

“Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir finds our hero waking up inside a spacecraft with no memory of who he is and what he is doing there. Bits of memory come to him slowly, enough for him to realize that he is part of a mission to save the Earth from disaster brought about by organisms affecting the Sun’s radiation.

Andy Weir writes science in a way that makes it easy to understand and also engages his readers to want to read more. I enjoyed this book very much, especially the problem-solving and tea

Just very, very satisfying. Easy read but has enough content and concepts to be more filling than popcorn. Nothing will really challenge you because it is so tied up neatly but it's a ride beginning to end. Highly recommend for a good time. ...more

This took longer to get going than the Martian (guy wakes up with amnesia, and it takes a while for him to remember where he is and what he is doing) but it had much better character development. I loved (view spoiler).. ...more

Loooooved this book. It was right my alley with science problems in space, interesting and great surprises, and an unlikely hero. I especially loved the way the book portrayed the questions and uncertainties in science.

Half audio book and half read. This was a brilliant book with a fantastic story and ending and I can’t wait to see the movie version.

A page-turner, for sure.

I enjoyed the “regular-Joe” quality of the main character juxtaposed with the super-smart scientists in the flash backs. Also, the author admirably wove the backstory into the present day narration.

Lots of thought-provoking and challenging theories about “alien”life.

But, does anyone really understand all of the nerdy, yet interesting science?

As with The Martian, Weir's strong suit is with spinning out (mostly) plausible theoretical science as it impacts a practical situation, and not as much with character development and the human side of the equation (although Rocky is my favorite Weir character by far). ...more
