I didn't like this as much as some of Chuck's other novels. The writing style was difficult to get used to (there aren't many connectors, prepositions, or possessives), but also pretty amusing. My favorite was when Pygmy, an exchange student/secret operative of "Operation Havoc," visited the "religious propaganda center" and is greeted by an older woman (who is also a Walmart greeter). I'm somewhat of a goodreads purist/ goodreads snob and I'm about to break one of the first rules of goodreads snobbery. I'm reviewing a book I didn't (couldn't) finish.

If I could I would give this 2.5. I've always been a huge Palahniuk fan, but there were parts of this book - particularly the first 70 pages or so - which really just didn't work for me. Whilst other sections - especially nearer the end - evoked the Palahniuk of old, they still definitely weren't his best. ...more
