Ah! Vlad Dracula! Radu Dracula! Emperor Mehmed! What a bunch of lovable assholes!

Or, not that lovable, and I'm glad. These were horrible people. Not for nothing did Vlad become known as Tepes- the Impaler! And Radu was no prize pig, either. Lada Dragwlya has always known that being ruthless in a brutal world is the key to survival--especially for a princess whose only perceived worth is in the man she marries. I enjoyed Kiersten White's mostly light-hearted YA "Paranormalcy" series. This is a huge step forward, in scope, in character development, in world-building...in everything. It's beautifully done, and I look forward to the upcoming sequels following their shifting relationships and loyalties. ...more

Lada grows up practically feral, playing in the forests of Wallachia. She protects her younger brother, Radu, who — for good and bad — is soft wh

Secrets, lies, ambition, and longing. And waiting. And not much action but lots of politics. Not sure what teen would enjoy this slow moving book.
