Shelves: fantasy, own, middle-grade

This ia a very charming book, though a total departure from BEFORE I FALL (which I also loved). In this old-fashioned tale of orphans, ghosts, and runaway apprentices, a little girl and her new friends go on a strange adventure which is by turns humorous, tense, and poignant. Such a good book! And it's illustrated, too. I read the Advanced Readers' Copy, so the art wasn't final, but it still looked fun, and I can't wait to get a real copy! ...more

A perfect middle grade fantasy. I absolutely adored the illustrations, the charming characters, and the depth of emotion from this book. The book addresses death wtih no shame, and in a way that will be comforting to children and adults alike. Beautifully written and sweet.

AWESOME!!! I'm counting this among my favorite kids fiction. So fantastical I can't promote this enough for any kiddie lit lovers. The writing is phenomenal, the characters are spectacular, I am only disappointed that I can't start all over again. Oliver is quickly becoming one of my top favorite writers for the younguns'. ...more
