Was this the best book to follow up Severance with at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic? Sure wasn't but that's how the library holds crumble. Or whatever.
This is a VERY different book. It feels more hopeful - so maybe it was the right follow up? It's further along in the pandemic apocalypse and civilization has more figured out. Plus, Shakespeare.

I may never finish this book. I don't know why, but it doesn't engage me. When I pick it up, I like it well enough, but I don't ever seek it out to read. I've been reading it for approximately ever - like if Goodreads didn't tell me when I started it, I wouldn't remember because it's been that long. And I'm not even halfway through.

There were times when I felt like two people must've written this book. Sometimes the book was lovely and thoughtful, the descriptions just right. Other times, it was muddled and clumsy and just not good. And then, out of nowhere, it would begin to be lovely again. I was honestly confused.
Regardless of the uneven writing style, the story was complex and the story was interesting. I especially liked the structure, threading Arthur and all who knew him in and out of the plot. ...more

I really enjoyed this book! It's my first by this author and I love the gift she has of telling a story. I mean, if you think about it, a group of people traveling around after a major pandemic , doesn't really sound that exciting. But these characters are all very well written, and you find yourself wanting to hear their stories. I really loved the characters of Kirsten,Clark and Jeevan and will carry them with me for a long while. Can't wait to get my hands on another one of this author's work
