Just as good as it was when I read it for the first time 11 years ago.
A friend first introduced me to Anita Blake and Laurell K Hamilton in 2000. From the first chapter of Guilty Pleasures I was hooked. Not just your typical vampire story but not your typical murder mystery either. A wonderful blend of both and characters that you love and love to hate. This book doesn't read like a first book in a series. I was reading it thinking "Did I pick up the wrong book?" I didn't worry about it at first because I read the series a long time ago and am now pulling the comic (which is a lot of fun by the way) and thought that I just remembered more than I thought I did. I really loved Laurell K. Hamilton's early Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series books but I did feel like she lost the thread a bit in the middle of the series. I am glad to say that it seems like she is focusing more on the story line and less on the sex of late which makes the books better in my opinion. I think Anita is a great character and Laurell K. Hamilton can write a great plot but her overly complicated sex scenes can somewhat take away from the book.

It's kind of weird to start a series that you know will get super bad in like, ten books, but. I'm kind of intrigued?

The first book in the Anita Blake series, it promised something new and exciting. Probably one of my top 5 Anita books.
