The perfect thing to devour on a sick day. I barely got off the couch, completely diverted by this entertaining blend of historical fiction, mystery, great characters, and snappy dialogue. It's nothing too serious, but the writing has none of those terrible, annoying flaws often found in fluffier books. I love the Lady Emily Ashton mystery series by Tasha Alexander, so I was hoping for good things when this series - which sounded remarkably similar - was recommended to me.
Lady Emily and Lady Julia seem to have a good deal in common at first. Both are young, Victorian widows who discover their own unconventional sides while trying to solve the mystery of their husbands' murders with the help of an extremely attractive Crown agent / private investigator.

Better than Tasha Alexander's similar "Lady Emily" series, in that it is less pedantic about chosen setting (Victorian England), which allows you to enjoy the spunky heroine and gothic story for what it is...a light and fun read.
