We all secretly knew that librarians, with their tightly wound hair and their thick glasses, were out to get us. But the depth of the conspiracy will astound you! Sanderson has created a fun world here, with lots of hints for upcoming books. I particularly loved the dinosaurs with their British accents, eating the 'C' section of the library to get rid of that horrible book about how smart velociraptors are. There are lots of winks at other sci fi and fantasy books, not to mention books where peo

This books was really clever and funny! I loved the allusions to other works of literature. I REALLY got a kick out of the jab at Harry Potter at the very end... HA! SO TRUE! It was awesome!
Anyway, the premise of the story is that the known world has been taken over by evil librarians and that they are essentially controlling world governments and censoring what we know (by what we are taught in history BOOKS, etc.). Listened to the audiobook. Hugely entertaining. All kids ages 5-12 have been spellbound by this series and it has been such a lifesaver on the last few road trips. One thing I don't love--the main character puts himself down a lot, trying to be funny but it is just so so frequent, and there is a lot of "stupid" and "idiot" that is just unnecessary. I'd prefer not having that, especially where we can captivate my five and six year old with the plot and story. The audio book is a full cast and the

I don't know if I wasn't a huge fan of this book because I'm 2-3 times the age of the target audience, or the wrong gender, or because I listened to an audio version (I still have trouble distinguishing between the reader's influence and the author's influence), or because it just wasn't for me. I could understand where certain parts would be really funny to kids (Yes, I loved all the ironies of librarians trying to hide the truth from us, and jokes about how reading is bad for you [Whe ...more

It is deeply satisfying to be part of an evil group that secretly has taken over the world. Finally, someone has acknowledged my potential! That said, this is an entertaining read with a fun plot, but Sanderson is trying too hard with the constant authorial interjections. The style is a bit like Lemony Snicket's, but the constant interruptions to the story are less entertaining and more irritating.
