Really wonderful. The story and the characters were super engrossing, and McLemore's language is lovely and magical. I'm definitely looking forward to the next thing from her.

It was okay. I know it has great reviews, but I just wasn't drawn into this book. I only speak English, so the snippets of French/Spanish tossed in were lost on me without a translation. Waiting for Cluck to stand up to his brother (physical abuse) & mother (mental abuse) was futile - just do it. The families each had a special talent, but little time was spent on what the audiences actually saw during the performances. The cover of the book would draw readers in. I read it for a YALSA challenge

A Romeo and Juliet retelling with a sprinkling of magical realism, plus traveling circus performers and corporate corruption. What's not to like?

I had trouble getting into this one, as the style (while beautiful) isn't quite what I, personally, like. It got much better once the two main characters met, and I'm glad to have read it now! Full of magical realism and a kind of metaphorical way of writing.

Best magical realism since "The Night Circus." It's beautiful and perfectly dark. Just the right amount of romance. Definitely a new favorite - I'm so glad that I have a signed copy!!

You know when a book sounds like it will be so "you" but then isn't? This was that book. Not bad, just not a favorite like I had hoped it would be.
