5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - A favourite book from a favourite Romance Suspense series

Another great instalment in J.D. Robb's In Death Series, which focuses on the cases of complicated and damaged homicide cop Eve Dallas. Although a standalone story focusing on a particular homicide case, the novel picks up the timeline from the previous novels in the series and you'll miss key character events and developments if you skip the previous novels.

I listened to this novel on unabridged, audible audio. The narration by Susan Ericksen is top class, she does a great Irish accent and her tone for male and female characters is well developed, with great individual and recognisable character voices. It's great to have a consistent and talented narrator through the whole series of over 50 titles to date!

This one is amongst my favourite in the In Death Series as it is the start of Roarke's more 'official' involvement in Eve's police business and has some great character development for some of the secondary characters and contains a lot of emotional highs and lows for both Eve and Roarke.

A brief synopsis
Irish billionaire Roarke, mostly reformed criminal, owner of most of the free world, and electronic and financial wizard has a problem - several of his employees have been slaughtered in a short period for no particular reason. They appear to have nothing in common other than their employment by Roarke Industries and the fact they've been killed by a professional hit man. The hit man doesn't seem to care the police know his identity, yet the identity of the person(s) who ordered the hits remain frustratingly unknown.

Roarke has a lot on his plate organising the security for the auction of a famous actress's memorabilia, whilst hosting an unexpected guest, an old friend from the back streets of Dublin (Mick) and his childhood days on the other side of the law. Though busy, Roarke refuses to stay out of the case his wife and top homicide cop, Lieutenant Eve Dallas has landed. Eve and Roarke have to navigate the emotional mine field of worrying for each other's safety and how much either can involve themselves in the other's business, whilst putting aside their differences to work together as only the two of them can and close the case before another innocent life is taken, or worse yet one of them.

As usual, Eve is ably assisted by her faithful aide Officer Peabody, her mentor, former partner and father figure, Captain Feeney of E division, his best E-man Detective McNab and top psychologist Dr Mira. ...more
