Let us get right into this.

I see I am in the minority with my rating, but I started having some horrible flashback from my encounter with J. R. Wards' "Black Dagger Brotherhood", *shudders* those were some dark times ( I was in the minority on THAT too). Aka: Their names. Wrath, Pain, Violence, ect. At least Gena Showalter left it as a demon half with their names spelled correctly. Good gracious.

The storyline would have been great if the writing had been better. I felt ****Possible Spoilers****

The storyline would have been great if the writing had been better. I felt like I was reading incomplete thoughts from the author half the time. I could have dealt with that, but then sexy time between Maddox and Ashyln made it worse.

“Hot,” he said. “Wet.” “Big,” she said, squeezing him. “Hard.” “All yours.”

Maybe I have it wrong, was I supposed to read it like a Tarzan?

I think he couldn't get out a full sentence around her (possible speech impediment aka: demon under his skin). I imagined him grunting out his sentences and beating his chest. I could see a possible excuse with him, but what about her? She was just as bad.

Usually I can skim over that kind of stuff if it happens once or twice, but it happened A LOT.

Was the only description the author could come up with for the female MC "honey"? She had honey colored hair, skin, oh and she tasted like honey too.

I am surprised I made it to the end, but I was trying to find out exactly when she was going to pull her head out of her ass and realize what was going on with the hunters (her being part of it) and Maddox wasn't any better. How about you have a freaking conversation with her and explain to her what the hell is going on with the hunters vs. demons you eejit!

Okay, now I am just ranting *clears throat* alright! Long and short of this? I was not a fan. This was my first Gena Showalter book, her writing probably has improved by now. But I don't think I will be dipping my toe back into her readings any time soon. The story never pulled me in to care about the characters, I just got headache due to the eye rollings.

Again! I realize I am the minority. If you loved it, keep going with it. It just isn't my cuppa. 🤷‍♀️ ...more

Pros: Good story and altogether idea. Multiple really funny parts. Family like characters.

Cons: Characters can be ignorant, especially Ashlyn not about their kind but about her situation. Nothing big happens through most of the book. Too much bait talk. Question/debating back and forth especially in inner monologue.
