4.5 only because I didn't love the ending. This was a gripping read, loved the plot, the pacing, the characters, and all of the twists in the story, but I was just too disappointed by the ending.

I had no idea how much of the novel was almost a literary remix of Brontë’s work, but the reference and resonances are clear. And I can’t help but think that modern unlikeable heroines have their footing in both Rebecca and the second Mrs. DeWinter.

My brother recommended I read this book for my reading challenge, and I absolutely loved it! I'm sad I didn't read it sooner.
