Enjoyable story of redemption
Set during the Crusades, this story follows the journey of a broken man who learns the hard lesson of mercy and forgiveness through a grudging desire to make amends. He had to learn that forgiveness is not something he can earn. The setting and characters are rich, the story has a steady, building pace, and I would definitely recommend this to teen and older readers of historical fiction, easily those who enjoy Middle Ages, knights, Crusades, sweet romance, and likea ...more

The Book:

My first K.M. Weiland read! I enjoyed it.

This book was hard to rate. With parts going all the way up to amazing to downright confusing. Funny thing is, although authors mostly struggle through the middle. This book was amazing at that point.
The beginning was hard to understand, so I mostly skimmed through it. And the end left me with more questions than answers (mayhap courtesy to reading on 2 am).
But that was also the power of the book, it left me turning the pages way til the early morning hours.

Best book I've read in a long time. Everything, character arcs, plot, and themes, were superbly done. I got so into the story and the characters, I was sad to see the novel end. The characters were so convincingly displayed, and I never felt like they slipped out of character. I recommend this to anyone who likes medieval novels with adventure and a splash of romance.
