why did i wait so long to read this one?! holy buckets, amazing. i've read a lot of wwii books, but not much from this perspective. i never realized how terribly the french suffered. terrifying in the current political climate. i hope that i would be as brave as these women in action and not just in heart.

Weeping. Unabashedly. My heart was broken into ten thousand pieces...and pasted back together again.

The writing was absorbing. This absolutely didn't feel like a 550+ page book because the details were exquisite but not too much.

I would say 4.5 but I am going to round up. Really enjoyed the strength of the female characters. Filled with turmoil, struggle and a little romance during a time of war. I was sucked in from the start. It's another WWII book (there are a lot out there) but this was uniquely from the perspective of people living in France that were not Jewish and how they tried to help save their friends and family. Would definitely recommend it.

unexpectedly forced thought on who we want to be vs, what were capable of doing. the historical accounts a harrowing alone, but out fears about what the near future brings makes it all relevant. who would be? what lengths to go for love? basic humanitarian response? what do good people owe other people? religion versus insanity ?you will be asking yourself who you would be and what you would do to resist but maintain family safety,

Wow, just wow. One of the best books I've read in a while
