I liked Gideon's character and the uniqueness of the story. I had no idea how things were going to turn out. But I did not care for the really vague world setting, and the unclear language in dialogues and descriptions. I didn't really understand people's motives or why they were in that house. Or how on earth was I supposed to keep track of all those characters? Maybe I should have read closer. I don't know. But what I do know is that I am going to read the next one because, despite my misgivin

Okay, so in the end, I'm giving this a three. That's mainly because I struggled through the first half, which seemed quite slow to get going, before racing through the second as it clicked together. Definitely has the And Then There Were None vibe.
