An incredibly cerebral novel that defies novelistic conventions. I liked this less than Lerner's 10:04, but he's always a fascinating writer no matter what, since he creates prose through a poet's lens. I loved his descriptions of despising Americans in Europe who try too hard to blend in. ...more

We spend Adam’s fellowship year in Madrid with him, seeing it all through his eyes. Mostly what we see is Adam himself – confused, egotistical, hypersensitive, drugged out, intense, desperately adolescent.
