Philip is an idiot

You're right, Control, I should have read this ages ago! I loved every second of this semi-Gothic masterpiece, from the ambiguity that runs through the entire story to the feminist critique of male entitlement. (view spoiler) So, so satisfying.

The characters are like mice in a bag that’s slowly getting tied tighter and tighter.

Excellent lesser known Du Maurier work. My Cousin Rachel is full of intrigue, drama and mystery. The characters are brilliantly described and developed. I love the way you have several different images of what Rachel is like before you actually meet her. I liked this one better then Jamaica Inn, though not quite as much as Rebecca.

A serviceable gothic thriller. It's not up the standards of Rebecca, one of my favorite books, but it certainly was enjoyable. The ending is a bit ambiguous, which I enjoyed.
