I have serious trouble rating this. On a more abstract, literary level, I can se how it's a classic and a profound commentary on the consequences of a society that is superficial to the extreme.

On a personal level I thought it was horrendous, an explicit description of what would qualify as snuff porn (I think that's the term). If the movie had been true to the book, it would have been illegal. I had nightmares and was depressed and generally emotionally unstable while I read it. An achievement ...more

I really hated this book. And it wasn't the subject matter that was bothering me, it wasn't the bloody gruesome scenes or the ease of killing. It was the writing itself. If I wanted to read a fashion magazine, I'd pick one up. I couldn't stand it. Same goes for music reviews. Did Mr. Ellis write essays on Genesis and Whitney Houston and couldn't get them published anywhere else so he decided to stick them in a novel? ...more

That's the weirdest, most gruesome, sickening book ever... but it's worth 5 stars because it's so unique. The first half was ok in an "I am not shocked " way... but the second half was tough going. However, it's been in my TBR for a long time and I am glad I read it. ...more
