Lunchtime Listen May 2024
Well, that was unexpected. I have seen the David Suchet, Poirot, adaptation, which was actually taken from the short story Yellow Iris: a Hercule Poirot Short Story , but I had never read (or listened to) the novel , which is not Poirot but Colonel Race.
Wonderfully narrated by Hugh Fraser (Hastings) this is a real gem of a story, building on the short story into a full blown novel, with more twists than a twisty thing !!

I just love this title. This is terribly fun, terribly posh and fancy escapism. A rich and beautiful heiress is living the high life in London and the champagne is flowing every night as she embarks, somewhat reluctantly, on the life of a fresh young socialite.
While by no means Christie's best work, I highly recommend this novel for a relaxing read, it is sparkling good fun. ...more

Vintage Christie! Very satisfying explanation as to how and why the poisoning occurred and a clever plot as only Christie could deliver. Clues were there, sometimes repeatedly, but I was fooled again and wouldn't have it any other way.
