The structure of this mystery is a little odd. Instead of plunging the reader into the story and leading to a murder the book begins a almost one year after it takes place. And the first third is told from the perspective of those who were present at the fatal dinner party. In this way Christie establishes various motives and clues. I'm not certain how effective I think this part was.
