What Members Thought

This was my introduction to Superintendent Battle, although he really isn’t featured in this story he is definitely present and Agatha Christie did write four more books in which he is included.
This is one of my favorite formats ala Christie, big country house, odd assortment of characters and of course a murder or two. This is a mystery with secret identities, stolen items, missing people and lots of suspects who just all happen to be in the same place at the same time!

I'm sure that I'd read this book decades ago, probably several times, but I didn't actually remember it. It turned out to be a fun mix of old country house, foreign princes, false identities and secret passages, with packets of letters and memoirs appearing and disappearing... There are enough twists and turns that even if you figure out a few there's a pretty good change you'll be surprised by something else. If you're not, as long as you enjoy this style of book you'll be happy.

A very English mystery. This was my first Agatha Christie book, although I have seen a few that were turned into movies, and I was thoroughly impressed. The characters were humorous and quirky. The storyline had little romances intermixed within the mystery storyline here and there, just enough to spark interest and get the blood pumping without being weird or overdone. All in all, I loved it, it was very engaging until the end.

A thrilling one to say the least! Loved the mystery, intrigue, hints of romance mixed with spy stuff! Excellent weekend read.
