So as with all of the non Poirot/Marple books written by Agatha Christie, I hadn't read this before and had no knowledge of the plot. That said I was familiar with one of the main characters, the ex army, secret service man Colonel Race.

This book is based around the daughter of a palaeontology professor who yearns for adventures, and how on the death of her father sets out with little money but a heart full of determination to achieve her goal.

This was quite a different Christie. More of an adventure story than a mystery. In fact the central mystery was quickly overtaken by lots of little happenings and events that propelled the plot at rapid pace.

I absolutely love Ann Bedingfeld and am sad that she doesn't appear to be reappearing in future books in this series. She was endearing, funny and independent and her sexuality was quite bold for a book from this time. There were definitely some awkward moments in terms of race and gender bu

Part espionage, part mystery, part thriller, and a little romance thrown in. Starts in the London underground and ends up in the middle of a revolution in Africa. Another badass 1920s woman running around looking for an adventure. Thoroughly enjoyed, would definitely recommend.
