3.5 stars - if I read this one previously, I don’t recall - read with the Reading the Detectives Group for our Poirot Challenge, I listened to the Hugh Fraser audiobook while reading along. As always, he’s a lovely narrator, but this story was not great.

A promising premise spoiled by a plethora of racial stereotypes. Lots of characters with not a lot of development.

The premise and set-up are great; the execution and solution, not so much. It's still Christie, so I still get lots of pleasure from it, but it's not one I'd recommend to those not already on the bandwagon.

Agatha Christie's books are classics, but oftentimes I'll be struck in the face by such audacious racism--even in books published in the 60s and beyond--I go "woof" and have to take a deep breath before continuing.
