What Members Thought

I quite enjoyed this famous detective story and found it very readable and cleverly written. I also relished the descriptions of the glamorous, epic train journey - what a fantastic setting for a novel. But the big problem was that I already knew whodunit, having seen two films based on the book (and in fact had the ending spoilt for me even before I saw them.)

A murder in one train with 13 suspects. I like detective Hercule Poirot's attention to detail, intelligence, and power of deduction in solving the mystery. Although some of the details can be a little overwhelming to remember after many pages (such as each of the 13 suspects' alibi and whereabouts), his cross-examination kept me actively guessing and deducing of who might have the motive and opportunity to do the crime. I've read this classic several times, so this time I listened to it narrated by David Suchet. Obviously he's the ultimate Poirot, but his American and female voices leave something to be desired. I still prefer Hugh Fraser for Christie novels.
