Well I think my younger self below summed up the book quite nicely. Really very good, and made even better by the reading of Hugh Fraser (Hastings).
I would just add that I had 99% forgotten the denouement but had remembered a few pertinent facts that helped in my “guessing”

Some books don't stand up to rereading. This is one of them.

The characters are mostly a bit ridiculous (including Poirot's faithful sidekick, Hastings) & too many of them are very shady.

There are too many coincidences.

The crimes are too unlikely.

Although I figured out the culprit fairly early on, it might be because so much time has passed since this was written, and I've probably seen the solution used by other authors since this writing. Nevertheless, it didn't affect my enjoyment of this mystery. I didn't deduce all the ins and outs, and it's always fun to see Hercule Poirot gather the characters into the drawing room at the end of a novel and explain how his "little grey cells" worked through the puzzler. This is a new Christie for me and I absolutely loved it! Definitely an unexpected favourite. This book follows Poirot attempting to prevent a murder from occurring rather than starting with a body and hunting the murderer. This book was full to the brim with all of Poirot's little Poirot-isms which I found very funny. The way his character and Hastings's character bounce off of each other is so much fun.
