This one was very enjoyable. Poirot is on holiday (poor chap - never took a holiday that didn't turn into work for him!) and he comes across a vivacious young girl who has several attempts made on her life. Poirot steps into the scene but someone gets murdered by mistake. Eventually, the truth comes to light but not before a number of red herrings. The investigation gets more confused because there is a forgery as well.

The plot was great and so were the characters. But what I really enjoyed was

Poirot and Hastings are on holiday in Cornwall. When Poirot stumbles, he is helped by his old friend and a young lady, ‘Nick’ Buckley. The three sit in the garden and, when Nick brushes away a wasp, it appears that the wasp was really a bullet, which has whizzed past her head. Nick admits that she has had several near misses from death and Poirot is convinced that somebody is trying to kill her.

What follows involves Poirot attempting to keep Nick safe, while there are several other attempts on

The 8th Poirot mystery, this is again one I picked up randomly from my shelves for a re-read. This one is also like one of favourite Marple titles (though I won’t say which), but also a fairly good read in itself. In this one Poirot is on holiday with his Watson, Captain Hastings at St Loo on the Cornish coast, so of course the story is told in Hastings’ voice. Poirot insists that he does not wish to work anymore (or at least until he decides) even refusing a request from the Home Secretary. At ...more

Peril at End House by Agatha Christie.

Hercule Poiror and Captain Hastings (ret,) are on vacation and enjoying their leisure. That is until Mademoiselle Buckley appears on the scene and then situation takes a dramatic turn.

This story kept me fascinated from the beginning. A.G. left nothing to the imagination investigating every possible suspect as he turned over a new clue by the hour. The ending exploded with an exciting twist of events.

Hercule Poirot and Captain Hastings are having a holiday on the Cornish coast. Poirot is, he insists, retired. He has, in fact, turned down an appeal from the Home Secretary which has just arrived by post. But then Miss Nick Buckley comes into the garden below where he and Hastings have been sitting on a terrace. They invite her to join them and in the course of conversation, she reveals something alarming:

I've had three escapes from sudden death in as many days so I must lead a charmed life.

That clever Frenchman, I mean Belgian!
Christie has a dry wit, I liked this depiction of Poirot, forced to brag a little when the loyal Hastings does not take the hint;
“One should not sing one’s own praises” says Poirot. “One should not keep a dog and have to bark oneself” agreed -.
