What Members Thought

I have very mixed feelings about this one. I appreciated how Christie deals with the world changing. There is a feeling of nostalgia, and yet there's a clear warning about those who would glorify the past and how you just can't do that in a healthy way. This is set in the mid-60s, and Christie doesn't try to shoehorn the kind of book she would have written in the 30s and 40s there. And actually, the final culprit feels to me like a very 60s character. This is not a character Christie would have

Started this yesterday, and so enjoyed it that I spent most of this morning having breakfast on the patio and finishing it.
Had never read it before, but had seen the BBC Joan Hickson version many a time. So the plot and the denouement were not a surprise. The delight in reading was not diminished, though.

At Bertram’s Hotel is an Agatha Christie with Miss Marple. It has all the red herrings, interesting characters and twists and turns to keep you guessing. I liked the setting of a hotel for a certain class of character in London, it reminded me of Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont in some ways, cozy and classic and yet dated and of a time gone bye. Miss Marple is a guest at the hotel and she picks up clues and nudges the police in the right direction to solve a case of a missing cleric and then murde

Another book in "miss marple 2017 reading challenge ".
I read it as a part of a challenge ,(12 books in 12 months) .
The book was just what I will call "christie's average work" and it also lacked that christie factor .
I was not much intrigued and I guessed the ending pretty accurately
so I will rate it just 3 stars and will suggest that this could be easily avoided if you are a fan of some premium stuff. ...more
