Elderly Miss Marple is treated to a stay in London at the Bertram Hotel by her nephew. Bertram's is a place she stayed in her youth. She is surprised and pleased to find it still exists and is still exactly like it was so very long ago. This seems too good to be true. This has always been one of my favorite Miss Marple books, and that's saying a lot. Part of that is because I love the setting. Not only is it the perfect place for our collection of people to meet, but Bertram's Hotel actually becomes a character in the story. I'd love to stay there if I could because it's such a wonderful place to visit. I also like a lot of the characters who gather at Bertram's. Canon Pennyfather is adorable, Lady Selina makes me smile, Bess is compelling... it's a wonderful ...more

The book's plot was infinitely better than the ITV version. The description of the old world of Bertram's and the persons gravitating around it was very well written - both consciously nostalgic and vivid, but also pragmatic. In paralell, the money heist investigation was made interesting by the charismatic Chief-Inspector Davy.

Up til the very end, I enjoyed how both plot threads intertwined themselves. However, at the reveal, I was a bit disappointed by the suddenness of the reveal and the too abrupt ending. (view spoiler)

I would have rated up if the ending was better. Still, the books remains one of the better Marples.
