Was not overwhelmed with this one-found it a bit dry. But I will pick up the next one at some point!

As noted, I've read this before. Possibly not as many times as some of the others because I found this one later. I did not originally read the series in order as I started with The Nine Tailors, caught at a used book sale at SUNY Albany. I was hooked.
Although a contemporary of Agatha Christie's I have always thought that she wrote more cerebral stories.

First Lord Peter Wimsey’s elder brother is accused of murder, then their sister says she did it. Wimsey has a busy time sorting out the problems of his siblings and trying to prove that neither of them did it, of course with the assistance of his faithful and erudite valet Bunter. Meanwhile he also gets shot at and nearly drowns in a bog. This is a very enjoyable story with lots of excitement and some very likeable characters. My favourite person is the police inspector, Charles Parker, who whil

Clouds of Witness see the start of the growth of Wimsey from floppish dilettante to more aware of the world outside the upper class but it is still very much a aristocratic drawing room mystrey and not a particular favourite of mine. The characters in hindsight are rather cliche and the suspect's motive for withholding his alibi is pushed to absurdity. I did like the exchanges between Parker and Wimsey, Bunter is a the right sort of fellow always behaving like a proper gentleman's man while doin

Enjoyable enough, but found the plot a bit unbelievable and not that interesting.

#2 Lord Peter Wimsey, although there are glimpses of London and Paris, much of the action (including the murder) takes place at the Wimsey family's hunting place of Riddlesdale Lodge, where a varied assortment of folks have gathered for a long weekend. This is a superb "classic cosy", still wonderful after multiple rereads, and despite Sayers' slight tendency towards purple prose (but has a slam-bang, gloriously over-the-top finale).

Another spectacular Lord Whimsey novel. This one provides insight and scope into his family (particularly his brother Gerald and sister Mary). At first I was not sure this was going to be on par with the first novel, but it definitely is. Plenty of awesome quotes and cool moments within the story make it witty and engaging. Personally, I dislike court-room resolutions - which this novel employs. However, I must admit it was well-written. Overall, recommend this for those who love Holmes and Poir

Listening to the audiobook, I got lost several times. Couldn't keep track of what was going on. The story itself was good, just seemed to meander in directions I didn't follow well.

Great fun and not the least bit stressful, gory, or dysfunctional -- just exactly what I want out of my mysteries. I get kept on edge all day at work and deal with plenty of dysfunctionality there too -- I need not seek it in my fiction.
I can hardly believe I've never picked up Sayers before. Silly me. I look forward to relish with many more to come. ...more
