From reviews I've checked out of other books in the series, it seems it never loses its magic even though it was written over a man's lifetime, so I can't wait to keep reading! I am of course frustrated at the communication problems between Ross and Demelza, but if these problems weren't present, it wouldn't be nearly as realistic as it is. The characters definitely feel real and so well fleshed out.

The story is engaging enough for me to continue the series. I find myself frustrated with the main characters self involvement, but he may improve upon further acquaintance.

A nice installment that ends on a hopeful note that was only slightly marred by my foreknowledge of some of the events of the following books. It amuses me greatly that the titular character doesn’t make his appearance until near the end.

I love this series. The characters are painted so well in this novel.

You get a true sense of Demelza's wits in the third installment. She trusts her intuition, and if you have watched the series, you know she is right to do so.

The novel also gives you more of the inner thoughts of Ross, to understand his character faults more fully. He is not a hero that you can love all the time, and that is what makes the series so great. No man is perfect, and Ross is a prime example. If you watch the serie ...more
