My my my. A Time to Speak transcended its predecessor, A Time To Die, in so many ways I can hardly recount them all. If you happened to read my raving review of the last novel, you'd know how head-over-heels I am with Nadine's work, and how exceptionally hard it is to surpass A Time to Die's fabulousness. Nevertheless, Mrs. Brandes stunned us all again and left us hanging on her every word.

The second book of a trilogy almost always stinks. I don't know why, but the middle book is usually slow, overly dark, and tends to seem disconnected from the first book.
A Time to Speak , however, is one of those few instances where the second book is just as good, if not better than, the first. I think I liked this one better than A Time to Die . I was glued to the pages and never wanted to put it down. For me, I found the plot to be quicker-paced and I loved Parvin's role as a leader.

Now that I'm past my tear-streaked haze of awe and exhaustion ... as the 2nd book in a trilogy, this did not disappoint! Everyone knows the 2nd books is either the best or the worst. And there's no way this one is the worst ;) Any tiny things I didn't like about book 1 (very tiny), were 100x better in this sequel.
Parvin continued to grow and struggle, and doesn't always make the smartest decisions. (view spoiler) ...more

A Time to Speak by Nadine Brandes.
*breathes in deeply* Okay, so I think I’m ready to do the review. Sorry in advance if it turns out to be fangirl gibberish. After that ending I have no idea how to do this review spoiler free. So just…beware.
This book was absolutely amazing! The characters, the setting, the…well everything! It was so cool, and Oh. My. Word. So shocking at a lot of parts! Solomon, well he is just awesome! The notes in the boxcar….just absolutely adorable. And what happened i ...more

*Note: This review contains spoilers from A Time to Die, the previous book.*
Normally, sequels fall pretty flat. They can drag along without a focused plot, just trying to shuffle along the reader from point A to point B, so the author can get to the exciting conclusion.
However, A Time to Speak is a rare exception. A stellar exception, even.

READ THIS BOOK... but be prepared to be very cold! Also, I might have needed some hugs from a sympathetic big sister to help cope with the end of the book... still, you should read it.
I like this book even more than A Time to Die. The book is characterized by sacrifice, hope and courage. This book is not just filling in time between A Time to Die and A Time to Rise it has an amazing plot. There were questions after the first book but now I can understand (view spoiler) 's mot ...more

A Time to Speak ruined my life. But it was simultaneously one of the best books I’ve ever read.
Where to even begin?
First of all, if you haven’t read the first book yet, please refrain from reading this review, because there are spoilers everywhere. If you have read the 1st, I’ve kept this spoiler-free from the second.
Everything about this book was beautiful.
Okay, so the book is 400+ pages, yet never once did I feel it was drawn out. This is a huge rarity for me, being drawn-out books are p ...more

4. 5 Stars
A Time to Speak is even better than the first book, A Time to Die, which many of us can surely agree does not often happen in the middle book of a series. Yet I found this world far easier to digest and understand, with a good portion of the story taking place in Unity Village instead of an environment and culture that I am completely unfamiliar with. While A Time to Die was engaging, A Time to Speak was relatable.

Why did it have to end like that?? I had been warned by other reviewers that there was a massive cliff hanger that will have you sitting staring at the page waiting for more words to magically appear.
But when I finally realized that they wouldn't, I wondered about the house aimlessly, asking myself what to do with my life. How could I go back to the real world when my brain was still churning with hundreds of possibilities, frustrations, happy sighs, and general feels? I grinned when I had the ...more

I've always loved dystopian fiction.... this series is by far the best I've read in a while..... I loved Parvin from the first moment, and her character arc is really good. It's totally unpredictable in.... an exciting way!
I'm glad that I can go ahead and read book three... because the ending is heartbreaking! ...more

Loved it. I don't think Nadine Brandes will ever write a book I will not give five stars and an enthusiastic review.
The thing with a lot of 2nd books, is that sometimes the characters don't develop. They make the same stupid mistakes and it's sorta a repeat of book 1.
Not this one!!!! I enjoyed myself the entire way through and the book had an even spread of humor, action, and a tinge of romance (no spoilers).
The situations were real, bluntly so, and I felt as if I could see the whole book pla ...more

I am ashamed at how long it took me to read this book.... IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!! I loved Parvin's continually growing faith, and how she really let God direct her path! Solomon and Parvin were ADORABLE!!!!!! *squeals* not happy with the ending... Now I really want to read the next book!!! A time to speak was for sure a favorite book of mine and you should all read it!!
