Hi, I’m J.C.! I’m the author of three novels (The Hidden Amethyst, You’ll Be Like Faye, & Proof of Purple) and one novella (Far Away Faye).

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember and reading for even longer. Stories are my passion, and it is my joy and honor to craft my own for the glory of my King!

When I’m not writing, thinking about writing, or reading, you can likely find me hanging out at church with all my favorite kids or on some wild adventure (likely to the bookstore) with all my awesome friends. I also enjoy bullet journaling, hand lettering, hosting parties, talking about books, reorganizing my bookshelf, thrifting, and studying psychology (I’m obsessed with personality psychology, primarily MBTI!)

I have three younger br

Yes, I would recommend self-publishing. It's more work on my part, but I like it a lot and there's no working with publishers. We used CreateSpace, which is a subsidiary of Amazon. You just have to do all the work yourself and then they will print the book for you and it can go on Amazon as well. It was really affordable and I'd definitely recommend it. The only thing is that since you're not with an official publisher you have to do all the editing and formatting yourselves, but it's not too difficult. CreateSpace also has community forums and help pages for advice and it was extremely helpful for us. :) If you have any more specific questions, feel free to message me!(less)

“Well, this awkward.' -McKenna”
J.C. Buchanan, The Hidden Amethyst

“I'm not a bratty cute cupcake!!!!”
J.C. Buchanan, The Hidden Amethyst

“She had a triangular face with piercing red eyes. Her hair was sticking up at an odd angle, and it was a blackish color with streaks of greenish pinkish. Her face displayed sharp curves instead of elegant ones. Her lips were black and her mouth had a half-frown half-smile look.”
J.C. Buchanan, The Hidden Amethyst

“How do you do?" said Violet.
"How do you do?" said Klaus.
"Odo yow!" said Sunny.”
Lemony Snicket, The Bad Beginning

“It is very useful, when one is young, to learn the difference between "literally" and "figuratively." If something happens literally, it actually happens; if something happens figuratively, it feels like it is happening.

If you are literally jumping for joy, for instance, it means you are leaping in the air because you are very happy. If you are figuratively jumping for joy, it means you are so happy that you could jump for joy, but are saving your energy for other matters.”
Lemony Snicket, The Bad Beginning

“The book was long, and difficult to read, and Klaus became more and more tired as the night wore on. Occasionally his eyes would close. He found himself reading the same sentence over and over. He found himself reading the same sentence over and over. He found himself reading the same sentence over and over.”
Lemony Snicket , The Bad Beginning

“There are two types of panicking: standing still and not saying a word, and leaping all over the place babbling anything that comes into your head.”
Lemony Snicket, The Reptile Room

“Count Olaf sounds like an awful person. I hope he is torn apart by wild animals someday. Wouldn't that be satisfying?”
Lemony Snicket, The Reptile Room
