I wasn't sure I was going to like this book.
I was wrong.
I loved it for one big reason: THE VOICE.
Mark Wattney is a delight to spend time with. The author absolutely nailed this guy's personality, and it really came through in the writing. His entire journey is fascinating and unputdownable--I sped through this in just a few days.

For me, this is what I would dubb one of my first forays into hardcore Sci Fi books. I decided to start this novel after one of my students suggested reading it. Still, I was a little hesitant to begin reading it because it was what I like to call hardcore sci fi, where scientific elements are not only mentioned but are also needed to be understood by the reader in order for the story to progress. This was fun! I have to admit that I'm glad the movie adaptation is coming out soon, because even with all the detail that Andy Weir put into his descriptions of the different actions that, lonely man on Mars, Mark Wantey takes in order to survive, I still had a lot of trouble imagining most of it. The narration of this was pretty much perfect: Mark's voice in his logs is very funny and relatable and whenever the novel switches to third person it adds immensely to the suspense of the narrative.
