What Members Thought
This book was a unique one, that's for sure: in trying to cope with her parents' divorce, a comic-loving, cynical girl (Flora) befriends a squirrel (Ulysses) who has special powers: he can fly, he has super-strength, and he can type.
Yes, the story may be quirky, but it's also one Newbery-winner that kids might actually want to pick up! (My nine-year-old son is reading it now!)

Well... not really my thing. Too whimsical, too much animal. (Though it SHOULD to be, shouldn't it? Mr. and Mrs. Bunny? Right?) But it was well-written and creative and I can see why it was chosen best of the year. (I didn't like much last year.) I really liked the first half or so, and then it began to wear on me, because of the not-my-thingness. I think Horvath's books are sort of edgier and less sweet and that's why I prefer them.
