Fun middle grade book, a magical urban fantasy. The similarities to Harry Potter are unmistakable, but the characters are fun and the plot is fast moving for young readers.

Amari is invited to supernatural school and wants to find out more about her brother Quinton’s disappearance. She does not fit in in part because of her family’s economic struggles.

4.5*. Very fun, with many initial parallels to Harry Potter, both in storyline but also with a similar wonderful creativity and magical imagination. Some interesting twists, too. This was easy to read and the story never got bogged down. I will be interested to read about Amari’s next adventure.
