Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel is a really fun science fiction adventure about discovery, aliens, Conspiracies, and big brother. I loved this book. It is like an episode of or a movie of The X-Files. This book is also a character driven novel which makes it work. Clearly this is a setup book as the ending is the weakest part of the book.
I enjoyed the writing, the story, the characters, and the future of the series...

Good read.

SF novel about giant fighting machines.
Can't say much without spoiling the book for others. Just this: if you thought this was just another military SF slam-bang affair with alien machines, well you're in for a surprise.
Anyway, good for a summer read. 3.5 stars ...more

It pains me to put down this novel, as the synopsis and opening has incredible promise. However, I just simply don't have the drive to continue due to numerous issues, and I will tell you why.
Where Sleeping Giants struggles is in two things - characterization and infodumps. Each interview didn't feel like an interview - it felt like a exposition, like I'm being talked at rather than with. The flow of conversation was unrealistic, and the characters themselves are flat, with little to distingui ...more

Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel is a really fast and fun science fiction ride. Sure as many have said, the writing style is similar to World War Z but in this case the story is much more concise. The story itself is a cross between Pacific Rim and maybe War of the Worlds.
This is a true page turner of an action novel. I loved it. This is a fun adventure and science fiction in one.
Great characters.

Cool discoveries.
Interesting science.

I've realized that I really don't enjoy books that are written in the interview format. I read this book either last year or the year before and I just didn't understand the fuss. So I decided to try it again but in audiobook format. What a difference it made. I loved it! I'm going to get the audiobooks for the rest in the series as well. Maybe I'll even go back and give World War Z a try again. Thanks to a good friend, she knows who she is, for changing my mind about audiobooks.

This was a quick and interesting read. It is told through a series of interviews and sometimes reports by the main characters. They are assembling a giant robot and trying to determine it's origin as well as it's purpose and how to run it. I thought the style of writing would keep me distant from the characters but it didn't. I was still able to care about the characters and get a good grasp of their personalities. This was a very interesting read and I am definitely interested in reading the se
